The Exelon Foundation added Natrion and Blackcurrant AI to its Climate Change Investment Initiative portfolio, backing clean-energy startups developing advanced battery components and AI-powered energy procurement software. Natrion develops battery components that improve storage safety, cost efficiency and longevity, supporting the adoption of solar, electric mobility and distributed energy in Chicago.

Blackcurrant AI's main focus is on building software that helps large energy users model speed-to-power for AI infrastructure, covering site selection, rate negotiation, and equipment procurement on a single platform.

As urban energy infrastructure faces pressure from electrification and AI-driven load growth, Exelon’s 2c2i program shows how supporting battery performance and grid decision-making software together can address two of the most pressing bottlenecks in the clean energy transition.
