Flame-Retardant Battery Materials
LMATE is developing specialized materials to address the higher thermal demands associated with fast-charging EV batteries. Its portfolio includes a halogen-free flame-retardant adhesive, heat-resistant battery tape for securing and packaging cells, and resin coatings for battery pack surfaces. The adhesive uses a reactive design that chemically incorporates flame-retardant functionality into the resin, helping reduce component migration and potential adhesion loss associated with additive-based formulations. A specified tape specimen also achieved UL 94 VTM-0 classification in testing.
For battery manufacturers, materials that combine adhesion, heat resistance, and flame retardancy can simplify efforts to manage thermal propagation as charging speeds increase. LMATE’s planned application evaluations with overseas partners could help adapt these materials to different cell and pack designs. Commercially, the portfolio gives LMATE opportunities to deepen its presence in the expanding EV battery supply chain.
