Global Alignment Partnerships
Global Partnerships Unite Leading Building Councils to Standardize
Georgia Wray Norsten — October 18, 2025The newly formed Global Alignment Partnerships initiative brings together six leading organizations -- including BRE, USGBC, GBCA, IWBI, Living Future, and mindful MATERIALS -- to harmonize how sustainable building materials are assessed across international rating systems. The collaboration aims to align global standards such as LEED, BREEAM, Green Star, WELL, and Living Building Challenge under one shared sustainability framework.
By creating a unified language for data, metrics, and benchmarks, the initiative will simplify compliance, reduce costs, and enhance trust in sustainable construction. Manufacturers and designers will gain streamlined access to verified product data, while building owners can better meet climate and circularity goals. This marks a pivotal step toward a global system that prioritizes transparency, performance, and human health in the built environment
The Global Alignment Partnerships reflect a strategic breakthrough in sustainability governance for the construction sector. By aligning certification systems globally, the initiative removes long-standing data fragmentation, accelerating the adoption of circular, low-carbon materials. This move positions sustainable construction as a unified international effort -- vital for achieving measurable progress toward global climate and biodiversity targets.
