A new collaboration between HiiROC and Agile Energy Recovery Limited is set to accelerate clean hydrogen production and waste-to-energy innovation in the Scottish Highlands. The partnership will explore the integration of HiiROC’s proprietary Thermal Plasma Electrolysis (TPE) technology at Agile’s Thainstone Energy Park in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire -- a site designed to process up to 200,000 tonnes of municipal and industrial waste each year. Together, the two companies aim to maximize energy recovery while producing low-carbon hydrogen to support regional decarbonization efforts. HiiROC’s TPE process generates hydrogen using just one-fifth of the electricity required for traditional electrolysis and produces no CO₂ emissions, aligning with the UK’s Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard. By situating hydrogen generation directly at the point of use, the system eliminates the need for costly new infrastructure, facilitating faster and more efficient deployment across various industries.
