ICEYE and the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) have partnered to enhance deforestation monitoring in the Congo Basin, supporting biodiversity conservation and sustainable ecosystem management in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This region, which contains the world’s second-largest rainforest, is ecologically significant but faces ongoing pressures from deforestation, mining, and land-use change.

Monitoring these threats is challenging due to dense forest cover, persistent cloud conditions, and limited accessibility for ground-based observation. ICEYE’s synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology enables continuous, all-weather monitoring, providing consistent and reliable environmental data.

By combining satellite-based insights with local conservation knowledge, the partnership improves the detection of forest disturbances and human activity. This integrated approach supports more effective resource allocation, strengthens conservation planning, and contributes to the long-term protection of critical habitats, wildlife populations, and ecosystem stability.
