Michelin Introduces the Pilot Sport Endurance Tires with a Fake Tread
Kanesa D — February 26, 2026Michelin showcased its latest innovation in sustainable racing tires during the 24 Hours of Daytona. Teams were seen fitting Michelin Pilot Sport Endurance tires with temporary visible tread, which quickly wears away on the dry track, revealing the slick racing surface beneath.
The design highlights Michelin’s commitment to circularity and its goal of producing tires from 100% sustainable materials by 2050. The tread uses a patented 'Premium Touch' molding process, previously applied to street tires, and incorporates eco-friendly materials such as natural rubber from Hevea sap, recycled carbon black, citrus-based resins, bio-silica from rice husks, sunflower oil, and recycled steel.
“As Michelin introduced new GTP and Hypercar tires for the International Motor Sports Association and World Endurance Championship, we set an ambitious goal: reach 50% renewable and recycled materials without compromising performance,” explained Hans Emmel, Michelin’s Series Manager for the GTP class. “We not only met that target, but we maintained peak grip and balance while improving warm‑up, consistency, and wear.”
