Bio Polymer-Based Tires
Giti Tire's New 93% Sustainable Tires Boast Biomaterials
Colin Smith — February 24, 2026Giti Tire has developed a prototype passenger tyre with a reported 93 percent sustainable material composition by weight, combining renewable and recycled inputs to replace conventional petroleum based ingredients. The company states that 53 percent of the prototype is renewable, including deforestation free natural rubber, pine resin, and silica derived from rice husks, while 40 percent comprises recycled materials such as recovered carbon black, recycled steel, and R PET cords from plastic bottles.
The prototype is presented as a technical milestone intended to inform future product development and scale up efforts, with Giti indicating a pathway toward mass production by 2030 and a reported technical readiness score of nine out of ten. Public statements from Giti’s R&D leadership frame the concept as part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on virgin fossil feedstocks and to advance circular material flows in tyre manufacturing.
