MiQ Certified Shell's Offshore Assets for Methane Performance

MiQ has certified Shell's entire offshore production portfolio in the Gulf of America, making it the first operator in the region to achieve certification under MiQ's methane emissions standard. All 10 of Shell's offshore assets received the highest performance rating after completing independent third-party audits focused on methane intensity, monitoring practices and emissions management programs.
The certification process is designed to provide transparent and verifiable methane emissions data for the oil and gas sector. By combining facility-level assessments with ongoing monitoring requirements, the framework helps operators identify emissions sources, improve reporting accuracy and demonstrate environmental performance through a standardized system. The certification also expands beyond natural gas operations to include offshore crude oil production.
As regulators, investors and energy buyers increasingly prioritize emissions transparency, independent certification systems may play a larger role in shaping market access, compliance requirements and operational accountability across the global energy industry.
