Multi-chemistry battery systems developed through a collaboration between Gridscape and Scalvy are designed to improve grid-connected energy storage by integrating lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and future battery chemistries within a modular architecture. Supported by the California Energy Commission, the systems distribute power conversion and battery management at the pack level, helping reduce infrastructure complexity, improve scalability, and increase deployment flexibility across commercial and industrial applications. The compact architecture also supports grid-forming capabilities while lowering system footprint and reducing single points of failure commonly found in centralized storage systems.

The project highlights how modular energy storage platforms could reshape microgrid and behind-the-meter infrastructure as electricity demand continues to rise. Flexible battery systems may help businesses lower deployment costs, adapt to evolving battery supply chains, and improve energy resiliency for data centers, industrial facilities, and commercial properties. As renewable energy adoption accelerates, distributed storage architectures could become increasingly important for scalable grid modernization.
