Customized Black Pigment Platforms

Nature Coatings has expanded its product portfolio with the BioBlack Blends platform, a system designed to create customized black pigments and dispersions derived from processed wood waste.

The BioBlack Blends platform allows for the formulation of bio-based colorants "based on specific particle size, pigment loading, carrier, compatibility, compliance, and costs." The venture's core objective is to provide a direct, functionally equivalent substitute for conventional carbon black — which is a pigment traditionally sourced from fossil fuels — while eliminating substances of concern like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

A significant feature of this platform is its emphasis on integration without necessitating alterations to existing manufacturing equipment or established production protocols for the end-user. Thus, the BioBlack Blends platform stands as a drop-in replacement that allows brands to immediately reduce the carbon footprint and toxicological profile of their black-colored products.
