River Waste Recovery Partnerships

PLAN-B NET ZERO Partnered with Everwave on New Initiative

PLAN‑B NET ZERO and everwave have launched a joint initiative to remove riverine plastic waste and link waste recovery with clean energy objectives. The partnership uses a principle of one euro funding equating to one kilogram of waste recovered and reported an initial recovery of 10,000 kilograms from rivers in Cambodia as part of the programme launch. The initiative frames river cleanup as a complementary action to climate mitigation by reducing the flow of plastic into marine environments and supporting broader environmental stewardship goals.

everwave’s operational experience in river collection is cited as a core capability for the collaboration, with the organisation reporting more than 2.4 million kilograms of plastic removed across projects in Cambodia, Albania, and Thailand to date. The partners intend to scale recovery activities and to use the funding model to create measurable outcomes that can be communicated to stakeholders and funders. The initiative is presented as an example of corporate and scale‑up cooperation aimed at addressing plastic pollution pathways while aligning with corporate sustainability commitments.
