Varaha has announced the launch of the Varaha Industrial Partners Program (VIPP), a global initiative designed to enable biomass processing facilities with access to sustainable feedstocks to generate high-integrity carbon removal credits. The inaugural project in Côte d’Ivoire focuses on repurposing cashew shells, a byproduct of the country’s significant cashew industry that is often discarded or openly burned, contributing to emissions and local air pollution. Through controlled gasification, these residues will be transformed into biochar, a stable carbon-rich material that supports long-term carbon sequestration when applied to soil. In addition to durable carbon storage, biochar can enhance soil fertility, improve water retention, and support agricultural productivity. By converting waste into a climate-positive resource, the program aims to reduce emissions, strengthen circular economy practices, and promote more sustainable agricultural value chains in West Africa.
