Soybean Supply Chains

Brazil and China Explore 'Soy China' for a Sustainable Soybean Supply Chain

Brazil and the People’s Republic of China are in talks to launch a pioneering agricultural partnership known as 'Soy China.' This bilateral initiative aimed at establishing a soybean supply chain specifically designed to meet China’s growing demand for sustainably sourced, high-quality soy.

The proposed model would create a dedicated production system in Brazil that aligns with China’s environmental, social, and traceability standards, offering a tailored approach to responsible agricultural trade.

Drawing inspiration from the successful 'Boi China' program—Brazil’s certified beef export model introduced in 2019 to meet China's strict import criteria—Soy China seeks to institutionalize a similar framework for soybeans. While potentially modeled after regulations such as the European Union’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), China's version is expected to reflect its own priorities, likely balancing robust sustainability expectations with pragmatic trade policies.
