Sora Fuel Uses Direct-Air Capture to Convert Carbon into Syngas

References: sorafuel
Sora Fuel, a company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, developed a technology that integrates direct-air capture with direct conversion of captured carbon into syngas for the production of sustainable aviation fuel. The innovative solution combines two traditionally separate processes into a single, energy-efficient system. Sora Fuel's approach uses a liquid bicarbonate electrolyzer to capture carbon dioxide from the air and convert it, along with water, into syngas, which then undergoes Fischer-Tropsch processing to create drop-in hydrocarbon fuel suitable for aircraft. Sora Fuel's method bypasses the feedstock constraints and environmental trade-offs associated with other sustainable fuel pathways because it sources carbon from the atmosphere and requires only renewable energy and water for operation. As such, the solution is capable of delivering truly carbon-negative aviation fuel at a competitive cost.
