Repurposed Tiger Barrel Toys

Dartmoor Zoo and Olives Et Al Provide Dragan the Tiger with a New Toy

Dartmoor Zoo is officially working with Devon Contract Waste and Olives Et Al to deliver old olive barrels to the zoo for their Amur Tiger, Dragan. Dragan is a part of the 500 Amur Tigers left in the wild, making it crucial to ensure he is active, stimulated and content with the items and experiences within his habitat. Olive barrels serve as entertainment that is similar to a wild boar or small deer, but with a solid and bouncy structure that makes it interesting. The barrel also smell slightly of olives, catering to the tiger's unique sense of smell.

"It is hugely important to get multiple uses out of every resource, and this plays a fundamental role in our green initiatives on site. This was the driving factor behind implementing our partnership with DCW and the Dartmoor Zoo team are very excited about what the recycling future holds!” said Dartmoor Zoo’s Maintenance Manager Stuart Franklin.
