Farm-Based Solar Projects
Distributed Energy Infrastructure Supports Cranberry Harvest Efforts
Debra John — February 4, 2026Distributed Energy Infrastructure (DEI) has joined the board of the Solar and Farming Association (SAFA) as a founding member, supporting the advancement of sustainable, farmer-centered solar development. SAFA promotes dual-use solar and farming projects, known as agrivoltaics, as a strategy to strengthen rural energy resilience while preserving agricultural land and ecosystems.
Agrivoltaic projects are "designed to integrate renewable energy generation with ongoing farm operations, allowing land to remain in active production while reducing reliance on fossil fuels." These systems support environmental sustainability by lowering greenhouse gas emissions, protecting open farmland, and encouraging responsible land stewardship. In addition, diversified income from renewable energy helps stabilize farm operations, supporting long-term viability during market and climate uncertainty.
As a founding board member, DEI contributes experience in developing solar projects on working farmland with a focus on soil health, low-impact construction, and environmental protection.
