Off-Site Solar Projects
Pivot Energy and the University of Denver Complete Their First Project
Debra John — January 29, 2026Pivot Energy and the University of Denver have completed their first off-site solar project, highlighting the environmental benefits of distributed renewable energy systems. The 3.28 MWdc solar facility in Johnstown, Colorado supports the university’s commitment to offset 100 percent of its electricity use with clean energy and contributes to reduced carbon emissions through locally generated solar power. As Colorado’s first off-site net metering project, it demonstrates how institutions can expand renewable access beyond campus boundaries.
The project is part of a larger portfolio of more than 27 MWdc of solar capacity being developed by Pivot Energy to support the university’s long-term sustainability and carbon neutrality goals. Power generated at the site is virtually allocated to university facilities, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Environmental benefits extend beyond energy production as the site incorporates sheep grazing to support soil health and land stewardship while preserving agricultural use. The project also promotes long-term environmental and economic stability for local communities, with additional off-site installations scheduled for completion by 2027.
