Upcycled Canine Foods

Dog & Whistle is a Sustainability-Focused Pet Nutrition Brand

Founded in 2016, Dog & Whistle initially focused on producing dog treats made from simple, nutrient-rich ingredients. Founder Eric Adams began by creating single-ingredient fruit and vegetable snacks that gained popularity at farmers’ markets in Las Vegas.

The company’s mission evolved following the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, when Adams noticed restaurants discarding large amounts of unused food as customer traffic declined. The experience prompted a shift toward addressing food waste. To support this transition, Adams partnered with the Upcycled Food Association and consulted with ReFED to help integrate upcycled ingredients and sustainability practices into the brand’s strategy.

“I thought, why not take that perfectly good, consumable food and do something with it,” he said. “Working in professional kitchens, I saw firsthand how much perfectly good food gets discarded in the food system, and it made me realize that many of those same ingredients could be repurposed into high-quality pet food instead of going to waste.”

Dog & Whistle now crafts its nutritious dog food using upcycled ingredients, reducing waste and contributing to a greener planet.
