The Eco Living Community in British Columbia has established a not-for-profit Repair Café as part of its efforts to promote sustainable consumption and community resilience. The initiative provides a shared space where individuals can bring household items in need of repair, including small electrical appliances, textiles, and other everyday goods, rather than discarding them.

The Repair Café operates through the support of skilled volunteers and repair practitioners who assist participants in diagnosing faults and completing repairs. In addition to extending the lifespan of consumer products, the initiative places a strong emphasis on knowledge sharing and practical skill development. Participants are encouraged to learn repair techniques during the process, supporting greater self-sufficiency and awareness of resource use.

By diverting items from landfill and reducing demand for new products, the Repair Café contributes to waste reduction and circular economy principles. The initiative also fosters social connection and collaboration, strengthening community networks while promoting environmentally responsible behavior at a local level.
