Zero-Emission Freight Routes
Nike launched a fully electric inland waterway solution in Vietnam with CMA CGM and Gemadept, combining an electric barge, dedicated charging infrastructure and renewable electricity. The barge links Nike's Ho Chi Minh City drop-off location with the Gemalink deep-sea terminal in Cai Mep, supporting Vietnam's low-carbon transition.
The 100-plus-mile round trip produces zero direct greenhouse gas emissions, with batteries recharged using certified renewable electricity from a solar farm at the terminal. It is expected to avoid about 778 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, and Nike's transportation efforts cut inbound and outbound emissions 56% in FY25 from FY20. Its 2030 science-based targets include a 35% emissions cut across its supply chain.
As brands rethink freight, Nike signals how partnerships with logistics providers can scale lower-carbon transport without slowing delivery.
