CO₂-Saving Logistics Transport Models
CEVA Logistics Partnered with Avolta on new Logistics Truck
Colin Smith — January 15, 2026CEVA Logistics and Avolta launched a pilot sustainable road transport model using three Duo Trailers powered by renewable hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) on the Barcelona–Madrid corridor, targeting emissions reductions of up to 520 tonnes of CO₂ and 180 kilograms of nitrogen oxide annually. The Duo Trailer configuration pairs a tractor with two semi‑trailers to carry up to 70 tonnes per trip, increasing payload per movement and reducing the number of conventional truck journeys required; the pilot has been active since April 2025 and operates three days per week on the corridor.
The partners report that wider adoption of Duo Trailers under current Spanish authorizations could avoid 35,200 conventional truck journeys per year, save roughly 21 million kilometers of road travel, and reduce emissions by an estimated 19,000 tons of CO₂ and 6,646 kilograms of nitrogen oxide if scaled nationally. Operational requirements include prior validation of access points and roadways, permanent access to loading docks, scheduled stops, and compliance with service conditions and annual price reviews tied to inflation and logistics costs. Stakeholders evaluating the model should assess route infrastructure compatibility, depot handling procedures, HVO supply chains, regulatory approvals, and total cost of ownership relative to standard tractor‑trailer operations.
