Aquatech will Offer Direct Lithium Extraction in North America

Direct lithium extraction in North America is expanding through a new project between Aquatech and Prairie Lithium in Saskatchewan, Canada. The initiative aims to produce lithium for batteries while reducing some of the environmental challenges associated with conventional extraction methods. Unlike large evaporation ponds, direct lithium extraction (DLE) can recover lithium from underground brine using a smaller land footprint and more efficient processing techniques.

The project "will use Aquatech's Li-Pro™ technology to produce a purified lithium chloride stream, with a modular processing unit is expected to be installed in 2026, supporting scalable lithium production with a compact design."

Aquatech states that the technology has undergone extensive testing and is designed to deliver consistent lithium recovery. Combined with advanced water treatment and reuse systems, the project reflects broader efforts to improve resource efficiency and support a more sustainable North American lithium supply chain.
