Iberostar and Redexis installed the world’s first green hydrogen fuel cell at a hotel, Iberostar Waves Bahía de Palma in Mallorca, processing at least eight tonnes of green hydrogen annually to cover 70% of thermal energy demand and more than 20% of electricity needs. The hotel’s green hydrogen energy system uses hydrogen produced with solar power at a nearby Mallorca plant developed by Acciona Energía and Enagás Renovable.

The project is part of the European Green Hysland initiative, a €10 million Clean Hydrogen Partnership-backed ecosystem involving more than 30 organizations building a complete renewable hydrogen value chain across the island. Iberostar is targeting operational emissions neutrality by 2030.

Iberostar shows how integrating a localized green hydrogen supply chain into hotel operations can deliver meaningful emissions reductions while advancing renewable energy infrastructure at the regional level.
