Low-Carbon Concrete Certificates
Urban Mining Industries and S3 Markets have introduced low-carbon concrete certificates that allow companies to purchase verified environmental benefits separately from construction materials. These Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs) are the first issued for supplementary cementitious materials, creating a new financing pathway for reducing emissions associated with cement production.
The certificates are linked to Urban Mining's Pozzotive, a cement substitute manufactured from discarded glass. Pozzotive has a carbon footprint 93% lower than the cement it replaces and can improve concrete strength and durability. Through a book-and-claim system, buyers can acquire its environmental attributes without physically receiving the material, avoiding transportation challenges that can limit adoption.
For manufacturers, certificate sales could provide more predictable revenue and help attract investment in production facilities. Construction companies could also access lower-carbon purchasing options across geographic markets, potentially accelerating demand for alternative cement materials while supporting broader emissions reduction goals.
