Conscious Land Transparency Platforms
Public Information Website Launches 'The Myakka Initiative'
Debra John — January 14, 2026A public information website titled 'The Myakka Initiative' has been launched to provide a transparent, science-based resource on land stewardship and conservation practices within the Myakka River Basin. The platform is designed to serve residents, elected officials, regulatory agencies, community leaders, and media by offering clear and factual information related to environmental management and land-use practices.
The website was created by Steve Herrig, a Manatee County entrepreneur and philanthropist, to document how his privately owned properties are managed now and in the future. Its purpose is to ensure transparency around efforts to protect natural resources, preserve water quality, and responsibly steward land over the long term.
The Myakka Initiative is not a development entity, advocacy organization, or rezoning effort. Instead, it functions as a centralized informational platform that records conservation practices, planning decisions, and stewardship principles. The website "details environmental management approaches applied across more than 3,000 acres of preserved and carefully managed land in eastern Manatee County, including The Estates at TerraNova, TerraNova Equestrian Center, and Miakka Golf Club."
