MedStar Health is leading an environmental initiative that focuses on the rehabilitation of a substantial segment of shoreline on the campus of MedStar Harbor Hospital along the Patapsco River in Baltimore. The project aims to convert over 2,000 linear feet of deteriorated waterfront and approximately seven acres of land into a functional wetland ecosystem.

MedStar Health's endeavor on the Patapsco River shoreline is formally integrated into a larger municipal framework known as the Reimagine Middle Branch Plan, with the stated objectives of mitigating local flood risk through natural absorption of storm surges, enhancing water quality by filtering contaminants, and reestablishing native habitats and green spaces.

The physical work involves utilizing natural materials like stone and native plants to reconstruct the wetland, and while some minor disruptions are anticipated, the project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
