Plastic Chemical Recycling Solutions

Alterra, Technip Energies, and Neste have jointly announced the commercial launch of Nerea — a standardized modular solution for plastic chemical recycling that combines Alterra's thermochemical liquefaction technology with Neste's circular feedstock expertise and Technip Energies' engineering and modularization capabilities. This innovation delivers a product-based approach to replace traditional bespoke engineering models.

Nerea is designed to convert heterogeneous and difficult-to-recycle plastic waste into high-quality feedstock for the petrochemical industry. The plastic chemical recycling solution addresses the challenge of low circularity rates as global plastics production has nearly doubled over the past two decades, with significant volumes still ending up in incinerators, landfills, or the environment.

Nerea's standardized, modular design is expected to minimize pre-investment costs, reduce project complexity, and provide greater certainty in terms of cost and schedule. It will enable faster deployment across various industrial environments.
