Strategic Land Purchase Partnrerships
Saving Nature and Fundación Camaná Aim to Protect a Habitat
Kalin Ned — October 28, 2025The conservation group Saving Nature, in collaboration with its Colombian partner Fundación Camaná, has secured 46 acres of land in the Eastern Andes of Colombia. The primary objective of this acquisition is to establish a protected zone for the Cundinamarca Antpitta, a bird species with an extremely limited habitat that is classified as endangered.
The newly purchased territory is strategically positioned to link separate sections of forest. This serves to create a continuous corridor between higher elevation areas and the valley below. The conservation strategy by Saving Nature and Fundación Camaná involves restoring this formerly degraded land, which was previously used for grazing, by permitting native plants to regrow. This process will be facilitated by installing fences to prevent cattle from entering. As such, the initiative will not only benefit birds but also other local fauna, including the Flame-winged Parakeet, the Black-and-Chestnut Eagle, and the Spectacled Bear.
