Energy-Efficient AI Models

Horizon Europe Aims to Create Sustainable AI with The RAIDO Project

RAIDO is a Horizon Europe–funded research and innovation project that aims to develop a platform for Trustworthy and Green AI by combining data-efficiency, energy‑aware model design, and embedded ethical safeguards. The project frames its activities around pillars that include automated data enrichment and synthetic-data generation, compute‑efficient model architectures and an AI orchestrator to optimise training and deployment energy use, explainable and fairness‑aware methods for model transparency, and deployment tools for energy‑efficient edge-to-cloud operations; the initiative is coordinated by the Jožef Stefan Institute and runs as a multi‑partner demonstrator programme.

The project plans to validate its integrated framework through four real‑world demonstrators spanning energy grid management, precision agriculture, personalised healthcare, and robotics for bio‑based composites, with the stated objectives of reducing dataset sensitivity, lowering computational and lifecycle energy footprints, and improving explainability and bias detection in deployed systems. RAIDO’s stated deliverables include benchmarks, KPIs for green and trustworthy AI, demonstrator evaluations, and tools to support reproducible, low‑impact AI workflows intended for industry and research adoption.
