Solar Heat Reduction Films

Tint World Has Installed Window Film on an Offshore Tower

Tint World has installed XPEL Dark Neutral 15% Window Film throughout Frying Pan Shoals Tower, a decommissioned, off-grid Coast Guard light station 34 miles off the North Carolina coast that now operates as a nonprofit eco-tourism destination. The tower runs entirely on battery and generator power, and constant, unfiltered Atlantic sun exposure had strained its limited energy supply.

The window film blocks a significant portion of solar heat before it enters the structure, reducing the load on the tower's HVAC system and helping conserve battery and generator power in a facility that cannot draw from the grid.

The project shows how passive heat-reduction technologies like window film can meaningfully extend the operational efficiency of battery- and generator-powered facilities in extreme weather environments.
