Solar-Powered Ski Complexes

An ice complex in Wuhan now has 45,800 square meters of rooftop solar panels, generating up to 25,000 kWh daily to power cooling systems that maintain a constant -6°C year-round at Central China's leading indoor ice-and-snow venue. State Grid Hubei Electric Power Company assisted with the solar installation, and peak generation aligns directly with the venue's highest cooling demand during midday sun.

The venue also upgraded its smart control system to automatically regulate snowmaking intensity, added a 24-centimeter insulation layer to reduce heat loss and replaced all lighting with LED fixtures, achieving more than 10% in energy savings.

Self-generated solar power now meets nearly 30% of the facility's electricity needs, saving more than 250,000 yuan per month, while a 24-hour utility team monitors real-time load fluctuations to ensure uninterrupted power.
