Large-Scale Hybrid Solar Projects
Paras Energy and Partners Unveiled Massive Solar Project
Colin Smith — February 3, 2026Paras Energy, in partnership with Empower New Energy and technology provider Huawei, has commissioned a hybrid solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage installation at UMZA Rice Mills in Kano, Nigeria. The facility is reported to deliver approximately 1,800 MWh of clean energy annually and comprises a rooftop solar array with accompanying battery capacity. The project was presented at a formal commissioning and is described as grid‑connected, intended to supply a significant share of the mill’s electricity demand while providing dispatchable power during peak periods.
The installation is positioned to reduce operational energy costs and improve supply reliability for UMZA’s rice and oil processing operations. Reported outcomes include lower diesel consumption where backup generation was previously used, reduced carbon emissions from on site power generation, and potential operational benefits from more stable voltage and frequency for processing equipment. The project also generated short term construction employment and establishes a local reference case for industrial self‑supply using hybrid solar and storage systems. Further details on contract terms, expected lifetime generation, and long term operations and maintenance arrangements were provided in the project announcement.
