Climate-Resilient Solar Projects
Northern Sun Energy is advancing climate-resilient solar projects with two community solar installations totaling 23 MWdc in Waterford and Boonville, New York. Developed for Seaboard Solar, the projects required engineering strategies tailored to challenging site conditions. In Boonville, Northern Sun worked with GameChange Energy to design a racking system capable of meeting updated snow load requirements while maintaining reliable solar generation. The Waterford project required alternative construction logistics because its access bridge has a 20-ton weight restriction.
For solar developers, these projects demonstrate how site-specific engineering can expand renewable energy deployment into locations with infrastructure and weather constraints. Designing systems around extreme snow loads can improve long-term reliability, while adaptable construction strategies help projects remain on schedule. Northern Sun's experience could also help developers reduce delays and manage risks when expanding community solar into challenging environments.
