Trinity Energy Has Took a Costco Facility Fully Off the Grid

Trinity Energy launched an off-grid solar and battery system at Costco's Port St. Lucie, Florida, distribution center, integrating solar power, battery storage and electric fleet charging into a single platform capable of powering the entire facility without relying on the utility grid. The system was installed faster than a traditional grid-connected backup solution, allowing Costco to avoid lengthy interconnection queues and permitting delays.
The platform provides 24/7 reliability for mission-critical loads, including data centers, refrigeration and EV charging, while qualifying Costco for IRA tax credits tied to solar and storage investments. Trinity also collects facility-wide usage data to identify additional savings opportunities through ongoing load management and system optimization.
Costco's project shows how large commercial operators are turning to behind-the-meter clean energy systems to reduce grid dependence while gaining greater control over long-term energy costs, reliability and operational resilience.
