Battery-backed solar is helping South Africa expand renewable power by combining large-scale solar generation with advanced energy storage. Envision Energy will supply a 660 MWh battery energy storage system for the Naos-1 project, which pairs 300 MW of solar power with storage to deliver more reliable, dispatchable electricity to private businesses.

The project is designed to move clean power across the national grid through wheeling, allowing energy generated in one region to serve commercial customers elsewhere. By storing solar electricity and releasing it when needed, the system can reduce intermittency, improve grid stability, and support more flexible energy markets.

For businesses, Naos-1 reflects growing demand for renewable power that is both low-carbon and dependable. AI-managed storage and long-term service agreements may help companies secure cleaner electricity, reduce energy risk, and support South Africa's transition toward more resilient private-sector power infrastructure.
