Liberty Global is Working with ATX Networks Across Europe
Colin Smith — October 2, 2025References: finance.yahoo
Liberty Global has initiated a strategic trial with ATX Networks to evaluate the deployment of ATX’s Areca Hybrid Supercapacitor technology as an alternative to diesel generators and legacy battery systems across its European network sites, with the objectives of improving grid resilience, reducing carbon emissions, and lowering operational energy costs. The trial emphasizes use cases such as peak shaving leveraging rapid charge and discharge capabilities to smooth demand during peak price periods, and aims to assess lifecycle performance, maintenance implications, and the potential for new revenue streams tied to energy market participation.
Operational goals for the collaboration include extending backup runtimes, decreasing onsite emissions and noise, and testing integration with Liberty Global’s existing power and network management platforms to maintain service reliability during outages or grid stress events. Both companies framed the initiative as aligned with European decarbonization targets and positioned the pilot as a means to validate whether hybrid supercapacitor systems can deliver economic and environmental returns sufficient to support broader rollouts across Liberty Global’s infrastructure footprint.
