Valmet x Veolia marks a strategic collaboration under the HeatUp! project to develop an innovative heat recovery facility integrated with a fluidized bed biomass boiler at the EC4 combined heat and power plant in Łódź, Poland. The initiative is designed to strengthen renewable energy generation while significantly improving overall energy efficiency and environmental performance.
As part of the project, Valmet will deliver a flue gas condensing heat recovery system and an advanced automation solution to optimize plant operations. By capturing residual heat from flue gases produced during biomass combustion, the system will redirect recovered thermal energy into the district heating network. Consequently, the facility will utilize energy that would otherwise be lost, reducing overall fuel demand and enhancing resource efficiency.
The installation is "expected to recover more than 50 megawatts of energy and is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 82,000 tons annually, reinforcing long-term decarbonization and sustainable urban heating goals."
