Sustainability-Focused Builder Conferences
Cecobois Completed Its 11th Annual Conference
Kalin Ned — May 15, 2026Cecobois hosted its 11th annual conference and the third edition of the Forum Construction bas carbone et biosourcée in Montreal. The event gathered of 400 participants and 25 speakers who presented large-scale wood building projects and expertise in sustainable construction.
The keynotes at Cecobois’s conference covered circular economy strategies for reducing embodied carbon, city-scale wood construction for climate transition, topographical architecture that integrates buildings into natural environments, and integrated design collaboration to optimize environmental performance from the earliest stages.
Conferences and knowledge exchanges like the ones that Cecobois organizes are especially important today as because the construction industry is a massive contributor to global carbon emissions, not just from the energy used to heat, cool, and power buildings over their lifetimes, but from the embodied carbon in materials like concrete and steel, which release enormous amounts of CO2 during production. Wood, by contrast, is a renewable resource that stores carbon for the life of the building, and analyses using Cecobois' Gestimat tool show that replacing high-carbon materials with wood can reduce the carbon footprint of building structures by 25% to 70%.
