FIVB Adelaide Has Won a Community Impact Award
Adam Harrie — May 23, 2026The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Adelaide 2025 received the Community Impact Award at the 2026 Sport SA South Australian Sport Awards for its sustainability program, which diverted 83% of event waste from landfill. The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship sustainability model included a seven-stream onsite sorting yard, sand sourced from and returned to a local quarry, athlete accommodations within walking distance and a requirement that food vendors use recyclable or biodegradable packaging.
A partnership between The Hidden Sea and South Australia’s Container Deposit Scheme raised AUD $3,984.50 for Volleyball SA’s inclusion fund, supporting the SA Sitting Volleyball Team’s first appearance at the national championship in 2026.
FIVB and Volleyball SA show how embedding measurable sustainability targets into event design from the start can deliver genuine community and environmental impact rather than simply positive optics.
