Battery Recycling Programs
Continental Battery Systems Highlighted Its Circular Recovery Model
Adam Harrie — July 8, 2026Continental Battery Systems highlighted its long-standing lead-acid battery recycling program, an exchange-based model that collects used batteries during new battery deliveries, keeping valuable materials out of landfills and within a closed-loop recovery system. Collected batteries are tested for reuse, reconditioned for resale or sent for recycling, where manufacturers and smelters recover materials for use in new battery production.
The program supports a circular economy by connecting distribution, collection, recycling and manufacturing across Continental Battery Systems' network of more than 160 locations and five regional distribution centers throughout North America.
Lead-acid batteries are among the world's most recycled consumer products, with material recovery rates reaching as high as 99%. The program shows how established recycling infrastructure can support a more sustainable and materials-efficient battery supply chain over the long term.
