Canadian company Dispersa has unveiled its new upcycled sophorolipid biosurfactant commercially. The product, named PuraSurf, utilizes agri-food waste and non-consumer oil side streams, reducing and repurposing this waste to provide an ethical option for household, industrial, and institutional (HI&I) cleaning applications. Notably, this process uses precision fermentation and synthetic biology to turn food waste streams into products of this kind.

“This chapter represents a significant milestone in Dispersa’s commercialisation journey,” said Nivatha Balendra, founder and CEO of Dispersa. “Our focus remains on delivering consistent volumes and quality, along with supporting customers through market-ready formulation integration.”

As Dispersa ramps up production at its North American facility, consumers can expect more solutions for the HI&I sector in the near future, along with commerical partnerships.
