Cryogenic Fuel Supply Solutions
Alfa Laval Announces the Launch of a New Fuel-Conditioning Module
Kalin Ned — January 5, 2026Swedish industrial company Alfa Laval has launched an innovative fuel supply solution for preparing liquefied natural gas (LNG) for use in ship engines. The product innovation is termed a fuel-conditioning module, and it represents a significant expansion of the company’s marine equipment portfolio.
Alfa Laval's fuel supply solution relies on specialized cryogenic engineering, a technology that the company acquired through the purchase of the French company Fives Energy Cryogenics. The fuel-conditioning module is designed to manage the extremely low temperatures required to keep natural gas in its liquid state. This, in turn, conditions the natural gas for reliable and safe consumption by a vessel’s propulsion system.
Alfa Laval's fuel supply solution underscores the maritime industry's ongoing shift toward alternative fuels as part of broader decarbonization efforts, with LNG serving as a prominent transitional option that offers reduced emissions compared to traditional marine fuels.
