Egypt Outlined Its Green Aviation Plan with SAF and Solar Airports
Adam Harrie — April 30, 2026Egypt has presented a coordinated green aviation plan that pairs major infrastructure expansion with climate commitments. Solar energy installations are already operational at Cairo and Alexandria airports, and the government is studying domestic production of sustainable aviation fuel in Egypt in partnership with relevant ministries.
EgyptAir is adding 34 aircraft by 2030, bringing its fleet to 97, while a new Terminal 4 at Cairo International Airport will push annual passenger capacity past 60 million. Air Cairo, which carries about 20% of Egypt's inbound tourism traffic, is set to double its fleet within four years.
Egypt demonstrates how integrating fleet investment, airport upgrades, and clean fuel initiatives within a single national strategy can establish the country as a regional hub and a partner in aviation decarbonization.
