Ester Oil-Powered Transformers
HD Hyundai Electric Builds Korea’s Largest Eco-Friendly Transformer
Kanesa D — April 16, 2026HD Hyundai Electric has announced that it has successfully completed final testing for a new high-capacity, environmentally friendly transformer, which is now the largest of its kind ever produced in Korea.
The equipment will be delivered to a substation run by National Grid in the UK and is designed to handle large-scale power transmission. Unlike traditional models, it uses synthetic ester insulating oil instead of mineral oil, contributing to reduced environmental impact. This alternative reduces fire risk and minimizes ecosystem damage in the event of a leak.
HD Hyundai stresses that transformers at this scale require highly advanced insulation and cooling systems, making them complex, technology-driven products. The brand plans to build on this project by continuing to invest in research and development, with the aim of strengthening its position in the global energy infrastructure market.
