Laboratory in Northern Kenya Launches for Critical Biodiversity Care

The Laboratory in Northern Kenya (LiNK) has opened to expand access to veterinary diagnostic services in one of East Africa's most biodiverse regions. Developed through a partnership involving the Kenya Wildlife Service,
Wildlife Research and Training Institute, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Northern Rangelands Trust, and other conservation organizations, the facility is designed to support wildlife health monitoring and conservation efforts across northern Kenya. Located at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, LiNK operates as a satellite laboratory of the Kenya Wildlife Service and serves veterinarians and wildlife rangers responding to injuries, entanglements, and disease outbreaks affecting wildlife and livestock.
The facility enables faster analysis of biological samples, including blood, tissue, and fecal specimens, which previously had to be transported long distances for testing. By improving diagnostic access, the laboratory aims to strengthen disease surveillance, veterinary care, and biodiversity conservation throughout the region.
