The San Diego Zoo Safari Park has inaugurated the Denny Sanford Elephant Valley, a new habitat designed to highlight elephant conservation and promote public awareness of environmental stewardship. The exhibit was developed to deepen visitors’ understanding of African savanna elephants and the ecological challenges they face in the wild, including habitat loss and human–wildlife conflict.

Elephant Valley emphasizes conservation education through immersive viewing opportunities that allow visitors to observe elephants in a spacious, naturalistic environment that supports their physical and social needs. Interpretive elements throughout the habitat aim to encourage empathy for elephants while informing guests about the importance of protecting wildlife corridors, preserving ecosystems, and safeguarding the species’ native habitats.

A pedestrian bridge crossing the valley features an elephant passageway beneath it, modeled after natural wildlife corridors that enable animals to move safely across landscapes. By highlighting these ecological connections, the exhibit seeks to inspire visitors to support global conservation initiatives focused on protecting elephants and biodiversity.
