Neoenergia secured €14.8 million from Brazil's National Bank for Economic and Social Development to fund the Muçununga Project, an Atlantic Forest restoration initiative in southern Bahia led by Carbon2Nature Brasil and Biomas. The first phase will restore 1,300 hectares and plant more than two million native trees on degraded land within one of the world's most threatened ecosystems.

The project prioritizes native species over monoculture planting to support both carbon removal and habitat restoration. Carbon2Nature Brasil is also pursuing high-integrity carbon credits generated from the restoration work. Fourteen local communities will participate in programs focused on well-being, income generation and regional development, positioning them as active participants in the initiative.

The Muçununga Project shows how blended public and private financing can support large-scale ecosystem restoration while creating local economic and environmental benefits.
