PureField Ingredients Secures EPA Approval for Carbon Capture

PureField Ingredients has received approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to begin permanently storing carbon dioxide underground at its facility in Russell, Kansas.

With the permit in place, PureField is preparing to launch carbon capture and storage (CCS) activities following final system checks. This is expected to significantly reduce the facility’s emissions and position the company among the lowest carbon-intensity ethanol producers worldwide.

The operation is designed to make full use of its primary raw material—Kansas-grown wheat. The grain is first processed into food-grade ingredients, while leftover starch is used to produce ethanol and animal feed. The company also ensures carbon dioxide released during fermentation is captured and stored deep underground rather than being emitted into the atmosphere.
