Sudamala Resorts Features Solar Energy and a Coral Reef Program
Debra John — January 29, 2026Sudamala Resorts has integrated solar power systems and marine conservation programs as part of its broader commitment to environmentally responsible tourism across Indonesia. These initiatives are designed to reduce ecological impact while supporting reliable operations and preserving natural ecosystems in remote and sensitive locations.
A major development is the solar energy installation at Sudamala Resort, Seraya, in Labuan Bajo, Flores. The system now provides approximately 80 to 85% of the resort’s energy needs through renewable sources. It includes "480 solar panels with a total capacity of 300 kWp, supported by a 770 kWh battery energy storage system. Together, the system generates an estimated 410,000 kWh of clean electricity annually and reduces carbon emissions by roughly 370,000 kilograms per year, significantly lowering reliance on diesel generators."
In addition to solar power adoption, Sudamala Resorts participates in coral reef restoration and marine conservation initiatives. Through partnerships with conservation organizations and local foundations, the resort supports reef structures that encourage coral growth and marine biodiversity.
