Sustainable aviation fuel facilities are advancing the transition toward lower-emission air travel, and Twelve's AirPlant One demonstrates how alternative fuel production can be scaled for commercial use. The facility produces E-Jet fuel using captured CO2 renewable electricity, and water, creating a drop-in fuel that can be used in existing aircraft and airport infrastructure without modification. In addition to sustainable aviation fuel, the plant also manufactures E-Naphtha, a chemical feedstock that can be used in products ranging from plastics to consumer goods.
The development highlights growing interest in power-to-liquid technologies as aviation seeks practical pathways to reduce lifecycle emissions. By relying on renewable electricity and captured carbon rather than fossil fuel extraction, the model offers opportunities to diversify fuel supply chains and improve long-term price predictability.
